City of Lyndon Boil Order

A boil advisory was issued for the City of Lyndon that has been extended through Tuesday and this includes Lyndon Schools. Students and staff will be provided bottled water to drink. District ice machines are turned off and the ice dumped. The kitchen is using bottled distilled water to prepare food. Water for bathing does not need to be boiled as long as a person does not ingest the water while bathing.

The school district will continue to follow the boil order until we are informed by the City of Lyndon or The Kansas Department of Health and Environment believes the water is safe to drink. Immediately after we receive notice water is safe to drink, district staff will run water and run ice machines through several batches of ice before keeping ice in the bins to clear any affected water from water line serving ice machines, faucets and water fountains.

Proposed 2018-2019 Lyndon Unified School

District #421 Budget

The Lyndon Board of Education will hold a public hearing at 7:00 p.m., August 21st in the board meeting room at Lyndon Middle School. The proposed budget includes a school district mill levy of 42.485 mills. Including the Recreation Commission’s mill levy of two mills, the total mill levy for 2018-2019 will be 44.485 mills. Last year’s mill levy was 45.558 mills and the total mill levy including the Recreation Commission’s mill levy was 47.558 mills.

The mill levy for 2018-2019 school year includes 20 mills for the General fund, which is mandated for all Kansas school districts, a mill of 14.485 for the Supplemental General (LOB), 8 mills for capital outlay, and the 2 mills the Lyndon Recreation Commission requires from the school district.

The budget includes a General fund spending authority of $3,721,218. Of that amount, $603,650 is transferred to the Three Lakes Special Education Cooperative to help pay for special education services. This year’s Supplemental General, also known as the Local Option Budget (LOB), budget authority is $1,185,149. The total local tax required to fund the LOB is $315,504. The remainder of the funding for the LOB comes from the State of Kansas as state aid. The Capital Outlay mill levy will generate $179,474 of which $89,737 is state aid, leaving half of that entire amount to be funded through local taxes.
